The Universities Forum 2025 aims to serve as a dynamic platform for academics, policymakers, civil society leaders, and students to collaboratively discuss and shape the future of higher education in the Kurdistan Region. The forum focuses on identifying challenges, proposing actionable reforms, and fostering a culture of independence, innovation, and inclusivity within academic institutions.

Objectives of the Forum
- Strengthen Democratic Governance in Universities:Encourage transparency and participatory decision-making within academic institutions.
- Enhance Rule of Law:Ensure university policies align with democratic principles and legal frameworks.
- Promote Academic Freedom and Inclusivity:Foster a culture where faculty and students can express ideas freely and inclusively.
- Develop Actionable Reforms:Identify challenges and propose pragmatic solutions to advance the quality and governance of higher education.
Forum Structure
Date and Time: February 25-26, 2025,
A two-day forum with focused discussions and collaborative activities. The forum will be held in Sulaimanya.
Day One:
Discussions will engage students and academic administrators in constructive dialogue about the role of student elections and institutional adherence to legal frameworks. Emphasis will be placed on building connections between university administrations and students to ensure accessibility and inclusivity.
Objectives for Day One:
- Promote democratic values by encouraging dialogue on democratic practices within university governance.
- Enhance adherence to laws governing higher education institutions.
- Empower students and academics to participate in shaping a culture of democracy and inclusion.
Day Two:
Workshops, panel discussions, and the presentation of the Monitoring Report to discuss findings and develop actionable recommendations for reform.
