While migration remains a human right, unsafe and irregular routes have cost many lives and dreams. To respond to this challenge, more than <strong data-start=\"790\" data-end=\"841\">20 civil-society organizations from across Iraq<\/strong>came together for a four-day workshop titled <strong data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"989\">\u201cCommunity Engagement to Reduce Irregular Migration from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (CERIM KRI)\u201d<\/strong>, organized by the <strong data-start=\"1008\" data-end=\"1048\">Women Empowerment Organization (WEO)<\/strong> with the <strong data-start=\"1058\" data-end=\"1097\">support of the UK Government (FCDO)<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"1106\" data-end=\"1127\">Seefar Foundation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1132\" data-end=\"1372\">The <strong data-start=\"1136\" data-end=\"1170\">Chawy Zanko Organization (CZO)<\/strong> was honored to play an active role in this initiative, sharing its experience in <strong data-start=\"1252\" data-end=\"1316\">youth empowerment, civic engagement, and awareness campaigns<\/strong> that address the social roots of irregular migration.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1374\" data-end=\"1377\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1379\" data-end=\"1434\">Understanding the Human Story Behind Migration<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1673\">Held at <strong data-start=\"1444\" data-end=\"1470\">Van Royal Hotel, Erbil<\/strong> from <strong data-start=\"1476\" data-end=\"1501\">13 to 16 October 2025<\/strong>, the workshop brought together youth leaders, NGO representatives, and community activists to discuss <strong data-start=\"1604\" data-end=\"1670\">why people migrate irregularly and how communities can respond<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1675\" data-end=\"1803\">CZO\u2019s delegation emphasized that migration is not simply a movement\u2014it is a human story driven by hope, dignity, and survival.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1806\" data-end=\"2050\">\u201cMigration is not only about borders; it\u2019s about belonging and opportunity,\u201d said <strong data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1909\">Bilal Faris Ahmed<\/strong>, President &amp; Executive Director of CZO. \u201cOur duty is to empower young people to see their future here at home, not in uncertainty abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr data-start=\"2052\" data-end=\"2055\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2057\" data-end=\"2089\">From Risk to Resilience<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2091\" data-end=\"2422\">Through sessions on the <strong data-start=\"2115\" data-end=\"2166\">psychological, physical, and legal consequences<\/strong> of irregular migration, participants reflected on the hidden costs of unsafe journeys.<br data-start=\"2253\" data-end=\"2256\" \/>CZO shared lessons from its ongoing work with youth networks and returnees, encouraging NGOs to <strong data-start=\"2352\" data-end=\"2387\">replace fear with understanding<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2392\" data-end=\"2419\">punishment with support<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2424\" data-end=\"2596\">Interactive \u201cHot Chair\u201d and storytelling exercises revealed how trauma and misinformation shape migration decisions\u2014and how <strong data-start=\"2548\" data-end=\"2576\">trusted community voices<\/strong> can counter them.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2598\" data-end=\"2601\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2603\" data-end=\"2662\"><\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"2603\" data-end=\"2662\">Preventing Irregular Migration Through Empowerment<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2664\" data-end=\"3028\">The final day focused on <strong data-start=\"2689\" data-end=\"2723\">prevention through empowerment<\/strong>: education, youth participation, and sustainable livelihoods.<br data-start=\"2785\" data-end=\"2788\" \/>CZO presented its <strong data-start=\"2806\" data-end=\"2841\">Student Empowerment Model (SEM)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2846\" data-end=\"2874\">Youth Campaign Framework<\/strong>, practical tools that universities and local groups can adopt to build awareness and provide opportunities before migration becomes a desperate choice.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3030\" data-end=\"3189\">\n<p data-start=\"3032\" data-end=\"3189\">\u201cWe cannot stop people from dreaming,\u201d Bilal Faris added. \u201cBut we can help them dream differently\u2014by giving them the means to build a dignified life here.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr data-start=\"3191\" data-end=\"3194\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"3196\" data-end=\"3224\">\ud83e\udd1d A Shared Commitment<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3226\" data-end=\"3463\">The CERIM KRI program, supported by the <strong data-start=\"3266\" data-end=\"3335\">UK Government\u2019s Foreign, Commonwealth &amp;
